This term refers to the community of Islam, both great and small, of faithful Muslims. Ummah almost always refers the community in concrete reality or in abstract. Everyone has the potential to gain admission to this community. Joining the Ummah comes with certain obligations that follow the Islamic sacred law and gives privilages as well. Ummah is formed from the three fold consensus; consensus of the mind, consensus of the heart, and consensus of the arms. This is the belief that all ummah members share the same view of reality.

The ummah was the group responsible for the beginnings of the uniting of the bedouin clans before Islam became popular.
