The Five Pillars of Faith are essential to Sunni Islam and are required of every Muslim. The first pillar of faith is the Shahadah, which is the declaration that there is only one god, Allah, and the Prophet Muhammad is Allah's messenger. The Salat is probably the most well known pillar out of the five practices, which is performed five times a day: at dawn, midday, afternoon, sunset, and evening. Prayer is always done facing the Ka'ba in Mecca. The Zakat is the act of giving to purify one's wealth to gain Allah's blessing. The Siyam is the fasting during Ramadan. The Hajj is the pilgrimage to Mecca, in which everyone is expected to complete if you are truly devoted to the Islamic religion. The pilgrimage seals the promise to honor Allah, and is completed once you reach the Ka'ba shrine in Mecca.
