The Spanish Armada was sent to the Atlantic in 1558. The goal was to suppress England's support for the United Provinces and to end attacks on the Spanish supply ships. The Fleet was commanded by Alvaro de Bazan, who died in February of 1588. The fleet consisted of 22 warships of the Spanish Navy and 108 converted merchant vessels.
