Sahel - Mr. Thomas' World History ClassThe Sahel was the extensive grassland belt on the southern edge of the Sahara Desert that was used as a trading post between the southern and northern forests of Africa. The African states were located next to this point of exchange created trading cities to take advantage of the new opportunity for riches. However, the downside to this location was that the trading cities were out in the open, basically inviting people to attack them. There were also frequent droughts.
