Mongols, theThis is a featured page

The early Mongols were nomadic tribes that covered most of Russia, parts of central Asia, and northern China. Toumen, who was a leader reigning from 220 B.C. to 209 B.C., and his descendants began governing the territory from northern China to central Asia in the 3rd century B.C.E., which began Mongolian statehood. After centuries of invasions, the Mongols became a confederation of rivaling nomadic tribes that were secluded in between northern China and the Middle East in a place known as the Steppes in the 8th century C.E.

The Mongols were especially known for their great calvary forces, this is how they came to conquer a great deal of land in such a short period of time. They could cover great distances and were able to outrun their enemy, if needed. Their military tactics were also superior to those of their enemy.

Temujin (later named Ghengis Khan), is often considered to be the most famous Mongol leader. He was originally the heir to the leader of a generally small Mongol tribe. Due to his father being murdered, there began years of warfare with rival tribes until Temujin conquered and united the Mongolian tribes in 1206, under the name of Ghengis Khan.

Ghengis Khan died in 1227. Although the cause of his death is unknown, it's often said that he died due to battle wounds and old age.
The location of Ghengis Khan's burial site is also unknown. Anyone who witnessed the funeral convoy were killed so the location of his body could remain a secret. By the time of his death, the Mongolian Empire covered northern China and most of central Asia. His heirs to the throne would eventually push the Mongolian borders all the way to Kiev and Moscow, but periods of decline began to occur shortly after the Yuan dynasty (1271-1368) took the throne.
