MatrilinealThis is a featured page

A matrilineal society is one in which females take on the principal roles. This is usually referring to a female's role within the family. In matriarchal societies, the mothers or eldest women are the head of the households. Patriarchy is considered to be the opposite of matriarchy. Before becoming "civilized", many societies were matriarchal, such as the Aztecs.
