Mannerism is an artistic movement that began in Florence beginning in 1510. This new style began after the Renaissance and ended with the beginnings of the Baroque style. Mannerism is protrayed in art by the elongation of the human body and unnatural lighting and colors. This style was adopted as people of the sixteenth century stressed the idea of escaping reality. Some important artists who encorporated this style into their work included El Greco, Agnolo Bronzino and Jacopo da Pantormo. Mannerism was also found in the architecture music and literature. John Donne is probably the most famous manneristic writer of the time and the manneristic architecture can be seen through Antwerp.
