John Cabot was the son of a merchant, born around 1450 near Naples, Italy. In 1461 Cabot was a citizen and living in Venice. neither Spain or Portugal showed interest in Cabot so he moved to England. he sailed for King Henry VII on a westerly route, thinking it would be faster than Columbus's route.
