Israel is a country in Western Asia located on the eastern edge of the Mediterranean Sea.
History:
Israel has been sacred to the Jewish people since Biblical times. According to the Torah, the Land of Israel was promised to the three Patriarchs of the Jewish people, by God, as their homeland;scholars have placed this period in the early 2nd millennium BCE.
Government: Israel operates under a parliamentary system as a democratic country with universal suffrage. The President of Israel is the head of state, but his duties are largely ceremonial. A Parliament Member supported by a majority in parliament becomes the Prime Minister, usually the chairman of the largest party.
