The term Hellenism referred to the Greek-speaking Jews as opposed to Hebrew-speaking Jews in the Middle East. The word later referred to the civilization of the Greek-speaking world following Alexander The Great. Hellenism can refer to the ideals associated with ancient Greece and their culture, including humanism (the pursuit of knowledge and the arts, moderation and civic responsibility).
