Hajjaj was the viceory of the eastern provinces of the Umayyad Empire. With the help of Muhammad ibn Qasim, he launched a punitive expedition against the king of Sind. After victories in several fierce battles and successful sieges Muhammad ibn Quasim declared the region part of the Umayyad Empire.
