GriotsThis is a featured page

Modern West African GriotGriots are West African poets, singers, bards and wandering musicians considered a repository of oral tradition. They were thought to be excellent advisers for kings. They originated during the Mali Empire in the 14th century in which they served as advisers to the rulers of the empire. The first known griot was Balla Fasseke King Naré Maghann Konaté during his reign. Griots still exist in West Africa today as wandering advisers and story tellers.
