Greek FireThis is a featured page

Greek Fire was a liquid used in the Byzantine Empire during times of war that could burn while on top of water! This method was very useful in conquering ships and smaller boats in the oceans. The liquid contributed to the Byzantine Empire's long rein. Greek Fire was also used by the Chinese, Arabs, and Mongols, but mostly by the Byzantines.

This is a representation of a Byzantine ship using Greek fire in the late 11th century.
