Greece was a loose alliance of city-states, bulit around 500 B.C. Two powerful city-states were Athens and Sparta. They contrasted greatly -- Athens was considered a hub of philosophy, teaching, and logic, while Sparta emphasized the art of war, although sometimes considered unintelligent*.
