Officially known as the Federal
Republic of Germany, this country is one of the most historically rich and influential countries in
Europe and the world. Germany was run by princes in the 16th century, but legitimately unified in 1871 under the Franco-Prussian War. During World War II under the rule of Adolf Hitler in the Third Reich, the country was put in a
government called the National Socialist Party of German Workers, or the Nazi Party. Its structure changed again after World War II when the Allies divided it into West and East Germany. In 1990, Germany was reunified when the border between the two parts, The Berlin Wall, was brought down.
Germany is a part of many organizations, including NATO, The United Nations and the G8 nations. It also has the third largest economy in the world.
Germany has also been the home of many great minds, to list a few: Fredrich Nietzsche, Albert Einstein, W.A. Mozart, Johan Sebastian Bach, Gunter Grass, George Hegel, and Johann Wolfgang von Goethe.
Johannes Gutenberg, inventor of the printing press, was also German, making Germany the first to supply mass produced Bibles.
