EmpireThis is a featured page

An empire is a group of nations or peoples ruled over by an emperor, usually, but it may have other government, as the Roman Empire had a Senate. Usually a territory of greater extent than a kingdom, as the former British Empire, French Empire, Russian Empire, Byzantine Empire, or Roman Empire.

Some characteristics of a well-run empire are strong leadership, major construction projects, a strong legal system, extensive trade, an official language, and rights for its citizens.

One civilization that is a great example of a powerful empire was the Roman Empire. The reason the Roman Empire is a good example of an empire is because of its size (second largest in history) and how it ran. It was such an impressive empire that other later civilizations such as the Byzantine Empire, the Holy Roman Empire, and the Russian Empire tried to emulate it.
