Egypt - Mr. Thomas' World History ClassEgypt - Mr. Thomas' World History Class

Egypt is located in northeast Africa and began in 3150 B.C. It is famous for its great pyramids, architecture, polytheistic religious beliefs, and unique mummification process. It is broken up into periods of stability known as Kingdoms, whereas less stable times were refered to as Intermediate periods. Male phaorohs ruled over Egypt during these times, with the exception of a few female phaorohs throughout. Phaorohs were considered of the Gods, and were regarded in the highest esteem. After the end of the last period of rule known as the New Kingdom, Egypt slowly fell into decline. This river-valley civilization had a nile-based irrigation system, and a complex heiroglyphic writing system. Heiroglyphs consist of characters, or pictures that represent different sounds. The Egyptians belief in many gods was a part of everyday life. They have many gods and goddesses that represented things such as the sun, death, mummification, and fertility.
