Dowry is money or property brought by a groom to his wife at marriage commonly found in (but not originating from) Hindu upper-class families. Later on, dowry was also given to help with marriage expenses. In most cases the groom demands a dowry consisting of a large sum of money, farm animals, furniture, and/or electronics.
