Overview

Christianity is a
monotheistic religion that emerged during the first century A.D. It rooted from
judaism and the central belief of christians is the teachings of
Jesus Christ. After the death of
Jesus, his followers proclamied that he had risen from the dead and appeared to them. They believed
Jesus to be the messiah who would save Israel from its foes. The holy book is the Bible, and in the Bible are the list of laws similar to the Code of Hamurabi.
These are called the
Ten Commandments;
Branches of Chrisitianity
- Roman Catholicism- It is the largest branch of Christianity and is based on the Roman Catholic Church. It has over one billion baptized members.
- Eastern Orthodox Church- A branch of Christianity that originated in the Byzantine Empire. They believe themselves to be the true continuation of the original .Christian community created by Jesus Christ.
- Protestant Church- Groups like the Lutheran, Anglicans, and Old Catholics. They believe in the old traditions of Christianity but reject the Pope's power.
- Reformed Churches- Smaller groups that followed reformed traditions and rules. Some examples are Presbytarians, Evangelical, and Baptists.
