Bourgeoisie is a term used to define the upper, merchant class that are marked by wealth, education, and employment, as apposed to the aristocratic origin. They were made up of the wealthy members of the third estate that were overtaxed, but had no priveledges of the aristrocracy. This class was unhappy with this way of life, but were able to become leaders in the French Revolution because of their background.
